🌀 Sega Gives the Green Light to Modders
In a rare move for an online game, Sega is actually encouraging fans to mod Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds — as long as those mods stay fun and fair.
Yep, NJOYERs — that means you can finally make Sonic’s ride glow neon blue, turn Tails’ car into a futuristic hovercraft, or remix the soundtrack to your heart’s content. Sega’s all for it, as long as you’re not using mods that give you an unfair advantage in multiplayer races.
New: SEGA reminded #SonicRacingCrossworlds players of its Terms of Use after detecting cheating and unauthorized external tools.
Violations of its EULA may result in account bans or other penalties; but cosmetic mods are still allowed and encouraged per the game's modding

⚙️ Sega’s Modding Rules Explained
Sega recently reminded players about what’s allowed after spotting some cheaters in CrossWorlds lobbies. The company confirmed that while creative mods are totally fine, cheating tools and stat edits are not.
“We have detected misconduct including cheating, use of unauthorized external tools, modification of game content, and unauthorized access of the game program,” Sega stated.
Anyone caught using those shady tools could face warnings, bans, or even legal action so yeah, stick to the fun stuff.
💫 Creativity Over Control
Here’s where it gets awesome: Sega’s official End User License Agreement (EULA) actually encourages players to express their creativity. It says users are free to create modifications like new items, textures, levels, music, and more as long as it doesn’t break the rules or violate copyrights.
That’s a pretty big deal. Most studios lock things down hard, even for harmless visual mods. But Sega? They’re letting gamers remix and reshape CrossWorlds giving the community more freedom than we usually see from big publishers.
🏁 A Win for the Sonic Community
For a franchise built on fan passion, this move fits perfectly. The Sonic community has always been one of the most creative in gaming from fan art to full-blown fan games. Now, that same spirit gets to live inside an official Sonic title.
So go ahead, NJOYERs make your custom car skins, remix the soundtrack, or redesign your favorite racer (within reason). Just keep it fair, keep it clean, and keep it fun.
You can grab Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on PC and consoles right now and yes, it’s perfectly fine to mod it… as long as you play by Sega’s rules.
💬 What Do You Think?
Should more studios follow Sega’s example and embrace modding communities? Or does this open the door to chaos online?
